Plans and the Structure of Behavior
Published in Hardcover by Adams Bannister Cox Pubs (September, 1986)
Authors: George Armitage Miller, Eugene Galanter, and Karl H. Pribram
Average review score:

A building stone for Cognitive Science and for NLP
As you will be able to read in the new Foreword by Donald Broadbent of the University of Oxford, this book has had a major impact on psychology and helped achieve the switch to cognitive psychology. This book triggered much of the research that lead to Ulric Neisser's book "Cognitive Psychology". The five stars I gave are related to the importance of this book - when reading this book in 2001, without taking this background into account, I would still rate it 4 stars.

This book argues that our behavior is guided by our plans. People move from sub-goal to sub-goal until their purposes are achieved. A basic concept to explain that is the feedback loop which comes from engineering and is know as the TOTE model inside the NLP community. When NLPers try to model a person's strategy (e.g. for taking a decision), they are in fact looking for the basic building blocks of the TOTE. This books contains a chapter on "Plans for Speaking", showing the link between Miller and Chomsky, another father of modern cogintive science (and NLP).

Of course, if you just want to grasp the basic concept, there is no need to read this book given that many books that are linked to practical applications of cogitive science (such as NLP) will include the model. For instance, the first part of the third chapter of my book "7 Steps on Emotional Intelligence" is built around on the TOTE model.

I consider this book a "must" for any scolar of cognitive science in general and of NLP in particular that wants some background on their domain.

Praying with the Psalms: A Year of Daily Prayers and Reflections on the Words of David
Published in Paperback by HarperCollins (July, 1993)
Author: Eugene H. Peterson
Average review score:

An Excellent Daily Devotional
Praying with the Psalms is an excellent way to start the day! Eugene Peterson addresses the major issues of life and our relationship to the everfaithful and loving God through thought-provoking meditations and heartfelt prayers. This is a book I would recommend to anyone who would like to get to know God better but has trouble with the discipline of daily Bible reading. The daily readings don't take long, yet within one year all of the 150 Psalms are covered. Throughout the generations the Psalms have always been considered a place where one is able to clearly see the heart of God. Praying with the Psalms helps us in this endeavor. It is also a good book to give as a gift to a friend or a loved one.

THE MAN BEHIND THE MYTH
ANY SERIOUS STUDENT OF AMERICAN HISTORY, AND MORE ESPECIALLY THAT OF PARLIAMENTARY GOVERNMENT, IS WELL AWARE OF THE SCANDALS THAT HELPED TO BLACKEN PRESIDENT HARDING'S NAME FOREVER. HOWEVER, IN RECENT YEARS, INTEREST WITHIN THE ADMINISTRATIVE POLICIES HAVE SHOWN ITSELF TO BE QUITE OVERWHELMING TO SAY THE LEAST. WARREN HARDING REMAINS TODAY TO BE A SHADOW WHEN STANDING NEXT TO WOODROW WILSON AND CALVIN COOLIDGE. THE ROARING '20'S BROUGHT WITH IT SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN THE LIVES OF ALL AMERICANS, AND IN HOW THEY LIVED AND WORKED. THE ECONOMIC BOOM CAN BE DIRECTLY TRACED TO THE POLICIES OF THE HARDING ADMINISTRATION. HARDING PROMISED A RETURN TO "NORMALCY" AND HIS PLANS TO REVITILZ THE UNITED STATES WORKED BETTER THAN ANYONE FIRST THOUGHT. THE TWENTY-NINTH PRESIDENT IS LARGELY UNAPPRECIATED TODAY, BUT DESPITE THE SCANDALS, ONE WOULD HAVE TO CONCLUDE, AFTER REVIEWING ALL OF HIS DECISIONS, THAT THIS MAN CARED DEEPLY FOR THE FUTURE OF THIS GRAND NATION. PRESIDENT HARDING DONE MORE FOR THIS COUNTRY THAN MOST PEOPLE THINK, AND THAT CLAIM CAN WITHSTAND THE TEST OF TIME.

Author: Howard Eugene Alley
Average review score:

Intriguing Mystery
Very interesting book combining both historical fact with fiction makes very entertaining tale. Family details especially intriguing with well drawn characters a bonus. Would like to read more by this author. Mr. Alley's descriptions of a bygone era were evocative of another tumultuous time in our history. The descriptions of the naturescape were refreshing and sensitively
portrayed. Keep up the good work!

Primary Cardiology is divided into three parts. Part 1 covers fundamental principles thar underlie evidence-based medicine and translation of advances in science to the practice of medicine. Part 2 rational approaches to common clinical practice. Part 3 focouses on the evaluation of cardiovascular disorder. I higlhy recommend this book.

Prince Eugene at War 1809

The unknown leader
Too many peoples have wrong ideas about the managerial and, more important, military capabilities of this incredible man, the only one that not only gave orders to the empire militarty elite but had the courage to pretend respect from them not by his position but for with his examples (this gained him the Mac Donald hate and his tempative to appear as the real organizer of the 1809 italian campaign.
As the president of the main italian napoleonic reenactment group, I had access to the documents and the real battlefield and this make me able to understand many facts about this man and how deep is the work done on this book.
Before the 1809 austrian aggressor, the real commander of the Italian Army had no military experience over the one in Marengo so, he understimate the enemy gaining an heavy defeat in Sacile (a battle bad planned and conduced in a hand to mouth style) but he learned from his mistakes, was so strong to admit his guilty with his stepfather and reorganize the army in a so incredible way that in the successive real battle, near Nervesa, he conduces his army over the Piave River neverthless the spring flood and broke the back of austrian army pushing it from Italy to the Raab river conquering on his way oll the austrian alpine forts guarding the alpine passages.
The author conduce you hand by hand from the arrive of Eugene in Milan to the Raab battle explaining with precision and ability the plans of both commanders let Eugene appear like a real commander, not only as the puppet that Mac Donald wanted to present.
